Charleston – The Charleston Fire Department now has more life saving equipment.  Friday, the Charleston Firefighter’s Association donated four rapid intervention team packs. They are air bottles, masks and assorted tools to help get down firefighters out of danger safely.

The donations are made in the name of the nine firefighters that died June 2007 at the Sofa Super Store.

“They need this. They definitely need this so much and it will help the firefighters so much and it’s a very important piece of equipment that should be on every truck,” Mother of Louis Mulkey, Ann Mulkey said.

The money for the packs was raised during the Charleston 9 Memorial 5k run. The local union hopes to raise enough to get the department a total of nine packs.
