Fire destroys Conway home

CONWAY - A fire that started about 10 a.m. destroyed a single-wide mobile home Wednesday morning.

Horry County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Matthew Montgomery said the fire broke out in the living room of the house, and firefighters are still investigating a cause of the blaze at 5056 Huckleberry Lane in the Horry County portion of Conway. Montgomery said the family was not home during the fire, but because of the total loss, they will likely be displaced. He said none of the 15 firefighters at the scene were injured while fighting the blaze.

The house is in an area of the county that is not outfitted with hydrants, but it wasn’t an issue in fighting the fire.

“We had plenty of water on the trucks that responded. The hydrants weren’t an issue in this fire. We were prepared,” he said.

Firefighters were still on scene about 10:45 a.m., waiting for an investigator and monitoring the fire for hot spots, he said.
